Prime Minister Hun Manet Oversees Signing of Seven Key Agreements with Laos

Phnom Penh, March 25, 2024 – Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia presided over a significant ceremony on Monday afternoon for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on seven critical documents, heralding a new era in Cambodia-Laos relations. These documents span a broad spectrum of bilateral cooperation, from state boundary treaties to a variety of energy projects.

The agreements signed include:

1. Exchange of instruments of ratification of the State Boundary Treaty between Cambodia and Laos.

2. Minutes on the exchange of instruments of ratification of the same treaty.

3. Agreement on New Energy Cooperation between the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Government of Laos.

4. MoU on the purchase of green energy from "XEKHAMAN II Hydro and Wind Power Hybrid Projects" in Laos for Cambodia.

5. MoU on acquiring energy from “Nam Emoun 1, 2 Hydro, Pump Storage and Wind Power Hybrid Projects” in Laos.

6. MoU on the procurement of green energy from “Green Energy Supply of 1000 MW Combination of Hydro, Wind, and Geothermal Projects” in Laos.

7. MoU on the purchase of green energy from the “Xekong Pump Storage Power Project” in Laos.

8. This ceremony comes just before Prime Minister Hun Manet’s scheduled official visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), set for March 25-26, 2024, at the invitation of Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone of Laos.

Joining Prime Minister Hun Manet is a delegation that includes Deputy Prime Minister Sok Chenda Sophea, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, along with prominent government ministers and representatives from the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce.

The visit is aimed at reinforcing the bonds of goodwill and traditional friendship between Cambodia and Laos, promoting a comprehensive and enduring strategic partnership. It represents a commitment from both nations to boost bilateral cooperation across various sectors and address regional and international issues of mutual concern.

During his stay in Laos, Prime Minister Hun Manet will meet with President Thongloun Sisoulith and engage in comprehensive discussions with Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone to discuss pathways for enhanced cooperation between the two countries.
